So you have decided that a drone light show is the ideal concept for your event? Wondering what to do next? This comprehensive guide will walk you through the entire process, from brainstorming ideas to bringing them to life, and show you how we make enchanting memories in the sky.

Creating a drone show is an intricate process that demands the expertise and finesse of a dedicated team. Here at FlightShows, we take pride in our ability to craft breathtaking aerial displays that resonate with our audience long after the drones land.

Initial Conversation

Initial Drone Show Meeting

We like to have an initial meeting face-to-face, either through a Zoom call or over a real coffee! During this meeting, we will discuss the brief and goals of the project in detail. We will also delve into initial creative ideas and discuss the number of drones that may be required for these ideas to come to fruition.

We will review the ideal dates and locations for the project. Selecting an appropriate site can be challenging, but we are here to assist you throughout the process.

Once we have a good understanding of the project requirements, we will work with you to look at budgets and ensure that we get the best value and impact for money. We understand that budgets can be tight, and we want to make sure that you get the most out of your investment.

Overall, our goal is to ensure a smooth and successful drone light show, and we are committed to working with you every step of the way to make this happen.

Desk Survey & Site Visit

Before deciding upon a site for a show, we conduct a thorough evaluation of the area. We carefully examine maps and aviation charts to determine the suitability of potential locations. We look at how and where we can create a crowd line and secure area for the flight. Once we have completed a desk survey of the site, we visit the location to ensure our maps and plans align with real life.

At the site visit, we also check the access, obstacles and any other logistical challenges. We often create a 3D map of the location that will be used later by our animators and for the renders so we can show you how your show will look in the real space.

Creative Meeting

During the creative meeting, we will work alongside you to develop the essential elements of your drone show. We’ll take a look at the shapes you want to create and brainstorm some ideas on how we can bring your vision to life.

Music is also a crucial aspect of any drone show, as it sets the tone and timing for the performance. We’ll discuss music options and help with the creation of a soundtrack.

Storyboard & Shape Approval

Following the creative meeting, we will commence the process of crafting basic shapes and concepts, which we will then showcase to you through a storyboard. While these illustrations will not be the final design, they will provide you and our animators with a clear visual depiction of our ideas.

Our team of animators will utilise the storyboard and 3D map created during the on-site visit to begin shaping the animation using 3D animation software. Any necessary changes can be made at this time.

Creating the transitions & lighting

Step 2 in the animation process involves planning and programming the transitions between shapes. Our animators will use the approved shapes to create the entire show. We will then provide you with a video of the show along with the soundtrack. This stage is crucial as making changes after this point can be very challenging and may require restarting the project.

The show’s lighting is the final detail that brings it to life. It is a meticulous and time-consuming process that requires reviewing each frame to ensure every beat is captured. This is why it is crucial to finalise all previous steps before starting the lighting, as even a small change can result in days of lost work.

Animation approval

We will share with you the complete show and accompanying soundtrack, giving you a preview of how it will appear in the sky. While we are open to discussing minor alterations, it is important to note that these changes should be made as early in this process as possible.

Test Flights

We perform a trial run of the performance in a secluded area to guarantee its safety and accuracy in terms of colour and shape. You have the option to join us at the test site or we can provide you with a video of the show.

Crew Placing Drones

Drone Show!

The last piece of the puzzle is the show itself! Once we arrive on site and set up, you’ll witness weeks of hard work come to life in a magical aerial display.
